Learning for a changing world.

The British International School of Charlotte (BISC), in Ballantyne, describes its community as one that values connection, curiosity and opportunity. Its principal, Liam Strachan, began his career in Scotland before moving into international schools, most recently in Boston.

The school says strong leadership matters inside the classroom and in how a school connects with families and the wider community, and that it is focused on preparing students for a world being reshaped by AI.

From the principal

"When I first visited Charlotte, what stood out wasn't just the city's growth or energy, but its sense of possibility," Strachan writes. "Families here are ambitious for their children and deeply invested in finding the right environment for them to grow academically and personally."

Throughout his career, he writes, what has mattered most is "creating environments where every child feels known, supported, and challenged."

BISC's academic pathway runs from the English National Curriculum through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme.

"In a world of instant, evolving information, our role is not simply to provide answers, but to help students think critically, communicate clearly, and make sound judgments," Strachan writes.

Why families choose BISC

BISC is part of Nord Anglia Education's global network of schools. Through Nord Anglia, the school says, it took part in a two-year global research partnership with Boston College involving more than 12,000 students, and that the findings showed meaningful growth in skills AI cannot replicate, including critical thinking, sound judgment, adaptability and confidence.

The school describes its learning as intentionally personal, with a small community where every student is known academically, socially and personally. Middle schoolers work through the Think Lab approach; high schoolers take the IB Diploma Programme. Students also get individual university and career guidance as they plan their next steps.
