The October issue of Stroll Piper Glen is reaching mailboxes this week, and the whole edition is online and free to read right now if you would rather not wait for it.
The cover belongs to George and Gail McDowell, who bought in Piper Glen in 2004 to be near the grandchildren, moved in for good in 2008 and never left. They live on the ninth hole, sell real estate as a team, and Gail serves as ACC chair for the Piper Glen Master Board.
Gail is also the reason this issue has a recipe. Her famous caesar salad dates to a corporate move to Toronto in the early 1980s, and she has made more than 1,000 of them since. The recipe runs in full, with two ways to make the dressing.
Precious Pets this month are Jude and Bette, Candi West's two white English Labradors. Jude, seven, is the unofficial Mayor of Piper Glen and has never met a stranger. Bette, two, prefers mischief, swimming and fetch. Both know exactly which neighbors and which golfers keep treats.
A change on the masthead: this issue lists a Piper Glen Publication Team, with Katie Casamassa as editor.
The one dated item in the issue is a call for recipes: holiday cookie recipes, with a story and photo if you like, go to PiperGlen@n2co.com by November 1 for a coming issue.
Two dates from our events listings rather than from these pages. The Stroll holiday party, which Piper Glen shares with the Ballantyne and Firethorne magazines, is Thursday, November 5, from 7 to 10 p.m. at Zinicola, the Italian restaurant in Ballantyne Village, with food, music and door prizes; RSVP is open on the event page. And Light The Night, the lantern walk for Blood Cancer United, is Saturday, November 14.
The PDF carries the whole issue, cover to cover. Staying in print this month: the editor's letter and the contributors page introducing the new team.
And as always, the issue runs on its partners. The businesses on the Preferred Partners page are the ones that make this magazine possible and put it in your mailbox. Start there when you need them, and thank them when you get the chance.
